How To Address Three Common Washer Issues

Posted on: 28 January 2021

Your washing machine helps keep things in your home flowing smoothly. When your washing machine doesn't work correctly, there are things you can do to repair it.

#1: Washer Will Not Turn On

If your washer will not turn on, the first thing you should do is make sure the cord has not been pulled out. Then, you need to make sure the breaker has not been tripped.

If neither of these is the issue, you need to consider your usage of the washing machine. If you have just washed multiple loads in a row, the washing machine motor may have just overheated and needs to cool down. Give it a rest for a day, and then see if your washing machine turns on again.

If that isn't the issue, then the lid switch or timer knob may be broken. The lid switch needs to engage for your washing machine to know that it can start. If this lid switch gets damaged, your machine will not turn on. If it isn't that, the power supply knob may be damaged.

A qualified appliance repair person can help fix the lid switch or damaged power supply.

#2: All the Water Isn't Draining Out

When you use your washing machine and the cycle is complete, you shouldn't have any water remaining in the bottom of the washing machine. If there is water in the washing machine, there are a few possible culprits.

If you use too much soap, you could end up with lots of suds left over at the end of washing your clothing. Try to reduce the amount of soap you use and see if that clears up the issue.

If there is not a lot of soap left over, you may have a clogged drain hose. You can flush the drain hose with a garden hose.

If that doesn't fix the issue, you more than likely have a broken pump. An appliance repair person will need to fix the broken pump for you.

#3: Water Leaking From Your Washer

Finally, water leaking out of your washing machine is not a good situation. Having water leaking out of your washing machine is not good. Leaking water can lead to water damage to your home and means your washing machine is not working correctly.

Leaking water can be caused by a range of issues, from an issue with your drain or fill hose to a leak in the water inlet valve. The drain pump may not be working correctly.

If a drain hose is damaged, you may be able to replace it on your own. If the issue isn't the drain hose, you will want a professional to figure out what is causing the leak.

With most washing machines issues, you will want to try to troubleshoot the issue on your own first. If that doesn't work, you will want to bring in a professional washer and dryer repair repair person to assist you.
