3 Ways To Increase Your Air Conditioner's Performance

Posted on: 25 August 2015

Are you worried that your AC unit may be overworking itself just to reduce the temperature in your home? If so and this is, in fact, the case, you may be paying more for your energy bill when utilizing your air conditioner. Rather than assume that your AC system needs to be repaired, there are some things you can do around the house to help make your air conditioner run more efficiently. So, before you pay or perform your repairs, consider the following:

Keeping Sunlight Out of Your Home:

Direct sunlight can definitely increase the temperature throughout your home. Because of this, you may not see the full potential from your AC, which can cause your air conditioner to operate longer and harder to make up for the temperature increases due to direct sunlight. So, to prevent this, be sure to consider covering your windows with thicker and heavier window curtains. This will block out the sun, which will help keep the temperature down in your home.

Avoid Outside Air Draft:

Though your AC may be doing a great job at keeping the temperature in your home low, any sort of outdoor draft can compromise that and cause your AC to work harder just to make up for the temperature increase from any air draft that is entering your home. To ensure you better insulate your home, you will want to install door draft guards. This will prevent air from entering your home while allowing your home to trap in the cold air that your AC produces.

Clean Your Air Filters:

Dirty air filters can cause two problems, one being that they can block a good amount of air that is trying to be delivered into your home and the other that they can harm the air quality that is entered into your home. Because dirty filters are covered with lint and dust, your AC may have a hard time when it comes to delivering good air flow into your home, which can force your AC to work harder due to the lack of air that is being delivered into your home.

With these simple and easy to do tips, you will help allow your air conditioner to run more efficiently, as your home will be better at trapping in the cool air that your AC produces, as well as preventing hot outdoor air from entering your home. So, rather than assume repairs are the only way to improve your AC system, definitely be sure to make some adjustments to your home setting. However, if you do need an air conditioning repair, don't put it off--call a professional service.
